Development Progress:

Concept and Design:

The idea for "Surviving TNS" was born out of our own experiences in the academic world. We wanted to create a fun and relatable game that captures the essence of racing against time to meet mid-term deadlines. The concept of leaping across platforms, collecting coins, and battling assignments made perfect sense for this setting.

Art and Animation:

We worked together bring the New School campus to life in a pixelated 2D style. The characters, animations, and environments went through several iterations to ensure they matched the game's theme and were visually appealing.

Gameplay Mechanics: Creating a balance between collecting coins and battling assignments was a challenge. We wanted players to feel the pressure of deadlines but still have fun. Playtesting was crucial at this stage to fine-tune the gameplay mechanics and ensure the game was enjoyable for two players.

Playtesting Feedback:

Playtesting was a vital part of our development process. We gathered feedback from friends and fellow game enthusiasts to make improvements. Some key takeaways were:

At the beginning, the animations of these two characters need to be unified, the styles look different. Also, the map is too complicated to make it feel like it's a building.

In the middle of this project, the difficulty of the game needs to be improved as it is either too easy or too hard for some players.

The balance between collecting coins and completing missions needs to be adjusted to keep players engaged.

The visual and auditory elements received positive feedback, creating an immersive experience. They did feel that the bgm got faster as time went on, making the game feel tense to them.

Conclusion:

The development process for "Surviving TNS" has been an exciting journey. We are grateful for the valuable feedback we received during playtesting, which helped us shape the game into a more enjoyable experience.
